You are more than what you eat.

Science, Nutrition and a perfectly imperfect approach to eating.

This is not a diet book. And its not an anti-diet book. But it is a book about your diet, your life, and how food fits into it all.

In her trademark smart, sassy, and straightforward style, Dr Emma Beckett takes her extensive qualifications and applies them to our everyday lives, showing us how and why the science, theory, practice of food, food choices, eating, and biology are not as simple as diet culture suggests. By embracing complexity we can empower ourselves to make changes that suit our own unique lives and biology - we can ditch the guilt that comes with trying to follow simple rules didn't actually work, the pressure to be perfect, and the judgement of ourselves and others.

Part manual, part manifesto - You are more than what you eat puts people back at the heart of nutrition. Informed by a science, joy and a strong BS detector, Dr Emma will tell you what she really thinks based on a combination of her scientific expertise and her experience as a woman in a larger body, who has also fallen victim to diet culture. A perfect antidote to misinformation, disinformation, and the weight loss industry, this book will teach you to embrace the complexity of your body and your life, reject the lure of simple slogans, and heal your relationship with food.

From paddock to plate to people - science is there every step in the food chain.

Food is (hopefully) part of our lives everyday, so it can be easy to take for granted, but food and nutrition is a science. Whether it’s fresh or processed foods, science is part of every step - from plant, animal and soil science, through harvesting technologies, post-harvest technologies, storage, transport, processing, packaging, safety, shelf-life, right up to the our food choices, access, nutrition and health sciences. All along the food chain, food and nutrition scientists are working to make food cheaper, safer, tastier, healthier, more convenient & longer-lasting. Understanding this science can help empower you to make better food choices, that work in your context.
